SAMARINDA – Due to widespread flooding, Government of Samarinda allocated 6 Bilion Rupiahs from Local Government Budget (APBD) 2014 to contrive a new mitigation master plan.  The existing master plan – which was defined teen-year ago- clearly irrelevant with the current condition. According to the head of Department of Highways and Water Resources (DBMP), Akhmad Maulana, the master plan of the projects is in the auction process at the Procurement Services Unit (ULP) State Secretariat of Samarinda.

"We expect, auction process completed as soon as possible and early 2015 begins to set up," say Maulana, yesterday (3/6). "Existing Master Plan is irrelevant and should be advised", he explained. However, the new master plan is still referring to the existing master plan with the addition of several new areas.

Later on the marking area which no longer under water will be advised to another water-logging spot. “For example, Jalan Juanda known as flooded fields advised to be change due to polder accomplishment project at Jalan AW Sjahranie”. The new master plan has been assessed a team of experts and hear input from flooded residents.

"The hope remains that residents are no longer lives under water. We will continue to seek the maximum," he said. Separately, the Head of Section of DBMP Samarinda, Tristiyono Budi said flood mitigation is still relying on normalization of drainage, dredging sediment at the bottom of drainage.

Dredging is the effective way to expedite the water flow towards watershed (DAS). "For large scale projects such as land acquisition continues to run drainage in coordination with Provincial Government of East Kalimantan. For eg. Land acquisition of Jalan PM Noor towards Gang Ahim junction has now settled by Provincial Government," he explained.

Regarding the new spot, Budi pointed at Jalan Ir Sutami, Jalan Banggeris and Jalan Pasundan. "I have not seen the data. What is certain areas currently prone to water-logging must be included in the new master plan," he said. (*/dns/ica/k8).
