This assessment is given by a non-profit organization, the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI), which is concerned about the development of rural urban area, especially in developing countries.
Head of Public Relations and Protocol of Municipality of Balikpapan, Sudirman DJ said that over a hundreds of city and district in Indonesia, only Balikpapan and Bogor are chosen as a role model of city with low-emission, while Tangerang city are selected as suburbs.
Based on research and assessment facilitated by APEKSI, ICLEI claimed that city of Balikpapan was chosen as a role model for implementation of low-emission urban development, “according Sudirman.
